János is a senior research fellow at the HUN-REN Center for Social Sciences, Institute for Legal Studies in Hungary, and a researcher at the Centre for Disability Law and Policy at the University of Galway in Ireland. His research interests include human rights, particularly the rights of people with disabilities and national minorities. He has been involved in reforming the guardianship system in several countries. His monograph on this topic, “Implementing the Right to Decide under the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: Supporting the Legal Capacity of All Persons with Disabilities”, was published by Hart, Oxford in 2025.
He holds Master’s degrees from the Faculty of International Relations at the University of Economics and Business Administration in Bratislava (2002), the Faculty of Law at Comenius University (2003), the Central European University (CEU, 2004) in Budapest, and Harvard Law School (2016). He has worked for several international organisations and was director of the Validity Foundation (formerly the Mental Disability Advocacy Centre – MDAC) and the Minority Rights Group Europe (MRGE). As a lawyer, he has represented victims of human rights violations before international tribunals.
Since 2025, János has been a member of the editorial board of the Hungarian Journal of Disability Studies and Special Education. |
