Amita Dhanda is a Professor emerita of Law at the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research, Hyderabad. She leads the Centre for Disability Studies. An international expert in the field of disability human rights has not just argued for the human rights claims of persons with disabilities but also demonstrated how disability human rights would strengthen the human rights of all. Her book Legal Order and Mental Disorder is a pioneering work in the field. Her writings on the legal capacity of persons with disabilities and the child’s evolving capacity are widely referred to.
Since 2025, Andrea has been a member of the editorial board of the Hungarian Journal of Disability Studies and Special Education.
